Tony Awards Invite Families to Join the Excitement of Broadway’s Biggest Night

New York, NY (May 27, 2013) – The Tony Awards have launched brand new, interactive online programming, called “Totally Tonys,” an online destination which will be located on TonyAwards.com. “Totally Tonys” will feature exclusive content, programming and opportunities which will be fun and educational for the whole family. The site will launch today, at http://bit.ly/TotallyTonys.

“Totally Tonys” will celebrate this year’s featured young performers and the family-friendly shows that have graced the Broadway stages. The campaign will launch with a CBS promo featuring “Matilda,” “Annie,” “Cinderella,” Richard Kind, Jersey Boys and more. Check out one of the spots here: http://youtu.be/53qOZVJfO4s; and for an exclusive behind-the-scenes sneak-peak, go to: http://youtu.be/lV0kWFRHsIU.

TonyAwards.com will be partnering with KidzVuz, a video sharing site for kids ages 7-12 years-old and the only online destination exclusively dedicated to letting tweens have their say and share their views about the things they love. KidzVuz.com will host an online contest for young theatre fans between the ages of 7 and 17 who can enter to win a number of prizes exclusively from TonyAwards.com. Fans will be invited to submit a video telling us about their favorite Broadway musical - or even showing off their musical singing talent. The top winners will be chosen at random. In addition, KidzVuz reporters will be filming behind the scenes interviews with featured Broadway talent at the Tonys, bringing their unique kid perspective to the fabulous family-friendly shows nominated this year.

“Totally Tonys” will also feature videos from Broadway families; Broadway Trivia; “Awesome!” which includes feature articles spotlighting the amazing kid performers who have hit the stage this season, plus young Tony-winners; Photo Galleries; Puzzles and Activities; Study Guides; Videos and Podcasts with casts and much, much more.

“What makes the Tony Awards truly unique is that our fans are able to enjoy the telecast as an entire family. Not only is the show packed with entertainment for everyone to enjoy, but we are able to introduce young fans to the magic of live theatre” said Heather Hitchens, Executive Director of the American Theatre Wing.

“’Totally Tonys’ gives us the ability to speak directly to our young fans, through interactive, engaging and fun content,” said Charlotte St Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League. “They will be able to truly explore Broadway, through exclusive behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and much more.”

The 2013 Tony Awards will broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on CBS, on Sunday, June 9th 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay) and are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
